Amethyst Sphere with Phantom Lines & Rainbows
This natural amethyst sphere features a beautiful blend of soft lavender through to deeper violet tones, polished to reveal a mesmerising internal landscape. The surface is smooth and glossy, allowing light to pass through and highlight the intricate formations within.

Inside the sphere, distinct phantom lines can be seen—layered, geometric-like shadows formed during different growth stages of the crystal. These internal structures add depth and character, making the piece especially unique and visually dynamic.

The sphere also contains multiple internal rainbows, visible as flashes of colour when light hits natural fractures within the quartz. These prismatic reflections enhance the overall appearance, adding brightness and movement to the stone.

Set on a stand, the sphere maintains a perfectly rounded shape, ideal for display while showcasing its natural inclusions from every angle.

Geological & Scientific Notes
Amethyst is a purple variety of quartz formed within cavities in volcanic rock, where silica-rich solutions crystallise over long periods. The colour is influenced by trace amounts of iron and natural irradiation, resulting in the soft to mid-tone purples seen in this piece.

The visible phantom lines are caused by pauses in crystal growth, where a layer of mineral inclusions or changes in conditions created a “snapshot” of earlier growth stages. As the crystal continued to develop, these layers became enclosed within, forming the distinctive phantom effect.

The rainbows present in the sphere are created by light interacting with internal fractures and inclusions. These tiny structural disruptions refract light into spectral colours, producing the flashes of rainbow visible from different angles.

The combination of translucent quartz areas, internal veils, and mineral inclusions provides insight into the natural formation process and environmental changes during growth.
