AAA Diamond Apophyllite on Blue Chalcedony

Overview

This compact, high-grade specimen features a cluster of well-formed “diamond” apophyllite crystals rising from a subtle blue chalcedony base. The piece displays excellent clarity and strong natural reflectivity, with multiple terminated crystals creating a layered, light-catching structure.

Visible within the formation are circular mineral inclusions embedded in the chalcedony, formed during early growth stages and preserved as later crystals developed over them. These internal features add depth and make the piece visually distinctive from standard apophyllite clusters.

Geological & Scientific Notes

This specimen formed in a volcanic cavity where silica-rich fluids deposited minerals over time:

Chalcedony (SiO₂) formed first as a microcrystalline base, sometimes trapping earlier mineral inclusions

Apophyllite crystallised later from hydrothermal fluids, forming sharp tetragonal crystals with reflective faces

The circular inclusions visible in this piece are likely early-stage mineral deposits within the chalcedony, later exposed as surrounding crystal growth developed. These features provide insight into the sequential nature of mineral formation.

Why This Piece Stands Out
