Kunzite Sphere with Pyrite Inclusion

A beautiful pale lilac Kunzite sphere displaying soft lavender tones, natural internal cleavage structures, and a striking metallic pyrite inclusion running through the centre of the piece.

This sphere shows classic Kunzite translucency with visible internal growth planes and cleavage reflections that create a geometric shimmer throughout the crystal. The contrasting pyrite vein adds a bold metallic feature against the soft pastel body colour.

Overview

Kunzite is the pink-to-lilac gem variety of the mineral spodumene, a lithium aluminium inosilicate commonly found in granitic pegmatites.

Its delicate colour is typically caused by trace manganese within the crystal structure, while the reflective internal planes visible throughout this sphere are natural cleavage surfaces characteristic of spodumene.

This piece also contains a metallic pyrite inclusion, creating a natural contrast between the soft translucent Kunzite and the brassy sulphide mineralisation.

Geological & Scientific Notes

Kunzite forms within lithium-rich pegmatites where large spodumene crystals can develop over long cooling periods.

The blocky reflective structures visible throughout this sphere are caused by spodumene’s perfect cleavage, which creates flat internal reflective planes that become highly visible when polished.

The metallic inclusion appears to be pyrite, an iron sulphide mineral commonly associated with hydrothermal mineralisation. Its brassy metallic appearance contrasts strongly against the soft lilac body colour of the Kunzite.

Natural internal fractures, growth zoning, and cleavage features are all visible throughout the sphere and are typical characteristics of genuine spodumene material.

Why This Piece Stands Out

• Natural metallic pyrite inclusion

• Soft lavender Kunzite colouring

• Strong internal cleavage reflections

• Excellent translucency throughout

• Natural geometric internal structures

• Unusual mineral contrast between Kunzite and pyrite

• Highly polished collector-quality sphere

Care & Handling

Kunzite has good hardness but perfect cleavage, meaning it should be handled carefully to avoid sharp impacts.

• Avoid dropping or knocking the sphere

• Store separately from harder minerals

• Clean gently with lukewarm water and a soft cloth

• Avoid prolonged direct sunlight, as Kunzite colour can fade over time
