Diamond Apophyllite on Blue Chalcedony Cluster (AAA Grade)

Overview

This striking specimen features a sharp, elongated apophyllite crystal emerging prominently from a dense cluster of smaller terminations, all set against a deep blue chalcedony matrix. The contrast between the glassy, transparent apophyllite and the darker chalcedony base creates strong visual depth, while the varied crystal sizes give the piece a dynamic, multi-directional growth structure.

A standout feature is the dominant apophyllite point, which displays clear vertical striations and high reflectivity, surrounded by tightly packed secondary crystals that enhance light dispersion across the surface.

Geological & Scientific Notes

This specimen formed in a volcanic cavity where silica-rich fluids first deposited chalcedony (SiO₂) as a microcrystalline base. Later hydrothermal conditions allowed apophyllite crystals to grow on top of this surface.

The larger central crystal represents a dominant growth phase, where conditions briefly favoured uninterrupted crystal development, while the surrounding smaller crystals indicate subsequent nucleation events in a more crowded growth environment.

Surface striations visible on the main crystal reflect layered growth during crystallisation, often linked to fluctuations in temperature and fluid chemistry.

Why This Piece Stands Out

Prominent elongated apophyllite point

Strong contrast with blue chalcedony matrix

Dense secondary crystal coverage for added sparkle

Clear growth structure showing multiple formation stages

Compact but visually impactful display piece

Care & Handling

Handle carefully — apophyllite edges can be delicate

Avoid water and chemicals

Clean using a soft dry brush or air blower

Store separately to prevent surface contact
