This brecciated amethyst freeform displays a striking network of directional fracture lines and layered quartz growth, creating a flowing, almost fibrous internal structure. Unlike more blocky brecciated pieces, this specimen shows elongated fracture zones and aligned internal features, giving it a sense of movement and depth.

Polishing enhances the natural translucency, revealing fine internal textures, healed fractures, and subtle colour zoning between soft lavender and deeper violet tones.

Geological & Scientific Notes

This piece formed through fracturing and re-cementation of quartz under geological stress, but with a key difference — the fractures appear to have been influenced by directional pressure, creating elongated, aligned internal structures rather than purely angular fragments.

The visible linear patterns are healed fracture planes, where silica-rich fluids penetrated cracks and later crystallised, bonding the structure back together. These zones often appear slightly lighter or more translucent due to differences in crystal growth during healing.

Colour variation is caused by trace iron impurities within the quartz lattice, with natural irradiation producing the characteristic purple tones of amethyst. The presence of darker, smoky areas suggests localised differences in formation conditions, including temperature and radiation exposure.

Why This Piece Stands Out

Strong directional internal structure (less common than blocky brecciation)

High density of fine fracture lines creating texture and depth

Subtle colour zoning between amethyst and smoky quartz

Taller, more display-friendly silhouette

Care

Clean with lukewarm water and mild soap

Avoid prolonged direct sunlight exposure
