Amazonite Heart — Microcline Feldspar (KAlSi₃O₈)

This carved heart is made from amazonite, a green variety of microcline feldspar.

The piece shows soft blue-green to turquoise tones with subtle white streaking, typical of feldspar intergrowth and internal structural variation. The colour is primarily caused by trace amounts of lead within the crystal structure interacting with natural radiation over time.

The polished heart shape enhances the natural colour zoning and gives a smooth, clean finish while maintaining visible internal textures.

Geological & Scientific Notes

Amazonite is a variety of microcline feldspar, part of one of the most abundant mineral groups in the Earth’s crust.

Its distinctive colour comes from trace elements (notably lead) within the structure, combined with structural defects in the crystal lattice. These factors affect how light is absorbed and reflected, producing the characteristic green-blue appearance.

Unlike quartz, feldspar minerals show cleavage planes, which can sometimes be visible as linear internal features or reflective surfaces.

Condition

• Smooth polished finish

• Even shape and symmetry

• Natural internal textures present

• Minor inclusions typical of material

• No major damage observed

Care Instructions

• Mohs hardness: ~6–6.5

• Avoid drops (cleavage present)

• Clean with a soft cloth

• Avoid prolonged water exposure

• Store separately to prevent scratches
